Maitreya (channeled by Margaret McElroy) repeatedly speaks of the need to detach from trapped (unused) energy. It is “trapped” because we (metaphorically) “push it down” or try to “run away from it.” Essentially, it is “Looking At What You Don’t Want To See” and then taking steps to detach from it or “let it go” without resistance. Resistance defeats the process every time, so how do you detach from this energy?
Acknowledging Trapped Energy
The first step is acknowledging that there is trapped energy within your subconscious mind. If you are in a human body, it is there whether you acknowledge (or even realize) it or not. The reason is that hanging-on to trapped energy is a major factor involved in failing to learn necessary life lessons and/or balance karmic energy, all of which stall or even prevent you from raising your vibration. Believe me, it is there or else you wouldn’t be here on the earth plane trying to progress in your soul evolution!
Awareness of trapped energy comes in many forms, from strange images or snippets of information to recurring dreams and feelings—even physical pains—that rise up seemingly without a reason. Very often these feelings are embedded in life situations that seem to repeat over and over. Whatever shape they come in and no matter how scary they seem, they are messengers bringing the information you need in order to grow. But awareness alone is insufficient. Acknowledging what you are experiencing and why you are experiencing it sets the stage for honestly intending to do something about it and then following through with action to actually detach from these emotions—if you so choose.
Releasing Trapped Energy
Sometimes the trapped energy is released spontaneously, meaning that the release itself is what creates the awareness and acknowledgment. What actually happens in these cases is that the trapped energy has built up enough pressure that it has to come out at some point, physically, mentally, and/or emotionally, whatever is the weakest link. Usually there is a “trigger” (a person or event) that “pops the cork” to allow the trapped energy to be released. Because spontaneous release is so unpredictable, one usually wishes it had come out is some other way, at some other time, or in a different situation. As such, it is both uncontrolled and uncontrollable.
Far better (in my not-so-humble-opinion) is the intentional release of trapped energy. This obviously begins with awareness and (especially) acknowledgment, but rapidly progresses to the stage of trapped energy release. The advantage is that intentional release is more controlled in that it actually can be scheduled at a convenient and appropriate time, place, and sometimes the manner of expression, but especially because it involves your conscious intention. The latter is critical if you really want to make serious progress on your spiritual path (or accomplish anything else in life for that matter!).
Regarding the release of trapped energy, Margaret McElroy always said, “Better out than in!” But release alone is not sufficient. Releasing the energetic pressure of trapped energy is very important because this energy will eventually come out—with all of the potential problems (physical, mental, and/or emotional) that spontaneous release entails. Think of a pot of boiling water with a tight lid on a hot stove. Eventually that pot will boil over making a real mess and perhaps causing real damage in the process. But what if you take the lid off? That helps to release the pressure, but would you put your fingers in that pot? I’m guessing not, but then I meet all kinds of people who surprise me every day. So, what should you do?
Healing Trapped Energy
Trapped energy has not been adequately dealt with until it is healed, until you turn the stove off. The water (trapped emotion) is not the problem, it is a symptom. The problem is the stove, and you are the stove! You are the one who is not allowing yourself to heal, to truly and completely detach from toxic emotional energy. That is why no healing practitioner can “heal” you. It is your energy and you must do the work of healing (with as much assistance as you need from a “healing practitioner”). There are many healing modalities available to assist in your healing process (for example, past-life regression, matrix re-imprinting, etc., etc.), but there are no pills or magic wands that will do the work for you.
But no “healing” is complete without the final step of making sure that the stove (you) doesn’t start heating up again. That step is sincere forgiveness, usually the forgiveness of others who were involved, but always forgiveness of yourself for hanging on to it for so long. Why forgive yourself? Because trapped emotions are scary, they take you out of your comfort zone, they don’t feel good. They force you to stare at “What You Don’t Want To See.” But that is GOOD!
If you are willing to look, these trapped emotions are just energy, neither positive nor negative, except as we endow them with our own interpretations through the lens of our own life experience. But it is “trapped” energy because we have resisted allowing it to leave our life energy (soul, or whatever you choose to call it). Our “attachment” is only because we “don’t want to see” it. But “seeing” it for what it is and how we have allowed fear to define our emotions is the key to healing it, truly detaching from it, and allowing it to go back to the Universe for more constructive uses. That is a gift because, no matter how scary, this energy contains the information we need in order to grow into a better version of ourselves.
Maitreya prefers to use the term “unused” energy rather than “trapped” energy. He does so, I believe, because that energy is not available for us to use in the here and now for our own quality of life. It is only “trapped” by our own unwillingness to process it and to allow it to move constructively—either in or out of our lives, it doesn’t matter. But it is our choice.
Remember, a good way to start dealing with something that you are tired of pushing down or trying to run away from is to sit quietly and write down what you think you are avoiding. This often only scratches the surface of the real issue, but it gets things started through conscious awareness leading to conscious acknowledgment. And then you are well on your way to trapped energy release and healing. Every human being, from beginning student to spiritual master, has had to go through the same process on their own spiritual journey. Just don’t let your fear of “Looking At What You Don’t Want To See” hold you back.
Have a great month!
