It's All About the Energy!”

A few weeks ago I had the great privilege of being interviewed by Jon Anastasio on his BlogTalkRadio.com program, “Reclaiming Your Sacred Path.” We were talking about my upcoming book entitled, Dancing with the Energy: The Foundations of Conscious Living. A major theme of this book is very familiar to students of Maitreya—specifically, learning to become Master of your own life rather than the other way around. At one point in the program a caller introduced a question by saying, “I’m trying to take control of my life and am starting a new business, but I’ve also heard that I should ‘go with the flow.’ To me the only thing that goes with the flow is a dead fish! What should I do?” I thought to myself, “Excellent question!” and then started thinking about how I might attempt to answer it.

My first thought was, “Well, the fish is dead, but I’m talking about Conscious Living, so dead fish aren’t really applicable here.” But even if the fish were alive, I’d still have to say that a fish is not capable of Conscious Living. However, human beings are capable of Conscious Living if they choose to do so. I am reminded of the saying:

•   “Consciousness sleeps in minerals, dreams in plants, wakes up in animals, and becomes self-aware in humans.” ~ Jelaluddin Rumi (1207–1273; 13th century Persian poet, Islamic jurist, & theologian)

I think this is a pretty accurate statement regarding human beings because, while all of us are self-aware, very few people are really living consciously. Most people are virtually slaves of habit and the comfort zone where they primarily respond to life rather than being Master of their life. That is the primary objective of Conscious Living.

So, if one is (ideally) intended to be the creator and executor of his/her own life, what does it mean to “Go with the Flow?” Well, definitely not just “drifting with the current” of the life stream. That’s what a dead fish does, and the result is quite predictable. You are not dead; you are conscious and self-aware. But are you truly the Master of your own life? Absolutely not until you have learned to “Go with the Flow” of life in accordance with (actually in cooperation with) your Higher Self.

This is what is meant by “Allowing the energy to flow naturally” as I write in my books. The flip side of this statement is not resisting the natural flow of life, not “fighting” your circumstances but working with what you have and giving control of your circumstances to the Universe to deal with. Your job is simply to make sure your intentions are in alignment with your Higher Self, and then to relax and allow the Universe to manage the details. That is “Going with the Flow.” The essence of “Going with the Flow” is expressed in the concepts of “surrender” and “trust” in most of the world’s major religions and are one excellent way of thinking about it.

Simple, yes; easy, not so much. That is not our typical conditioning. Going with the Flow is a skill set that must be learned if you hope to raise your vibration, create the life that you desire, and ultimately live the greater portion of your life in a state of “ever-new joy” as Paramhansa Yogananda expressed it. Ever-new joy is your birthright, but you must earn it. Maitreya (and most other major teachers) give us exactly this same message. “Earning it” is a matter of learning life lessons, balancing karmic energy, and detaching from negative (trapped or unused) energy. But we always have the choice between “fighting” life circumstances and “allowing” our life energies to unfold naturally (without resistance) in order to “earn it.”

In other words, life is a choice between resistance and “Going with the Flow” of the Universe. Seems like a simple enough concept, but “the devil is in the details” as the saying goes. Those “details” are the stuff of conditioning, fear, and doubt, and the devil is the lower Self. The lower Self treats us as if we were dead fish. The Higher Self treats us as the embodied expression of Source Energy that we truly are. How we treat ourselves and others is our choice day-by-day, moment-by-moment. Hanging in the balance is our birthright, and it is ours to claim and to enjoy to the extent that we choose to “cooperate and graduate” with the natural flow of the Universe moment-by-moment.

Life on the earth plane is not easy, nor is earning our birthright. But if it were just handed to us, we really would not be capable of appreciating what a gift it truly is. We would simply take it for granted. Instead, we are given the gift of free will to choose how we respond to life. That choice is always between resisting or “Going with the Flow.”

January is traditionally the season for making New Year’s resolutions, intentions for what we want to manifest in life for the coming year. I’d like to suggest that you really need to make only one resolution that covers everything else quite nicely. That resolution is simply to “Go with the Flow” day-by-day, moment-by moment every day. If that seems difficult to imagine, just ask yourself if you want to be a dead fish or a self-aware being who chooses Conscious Living through the simple (yes, simple but difficult) act of “Going with the Flow.” Everything else is details.

That is my simple New Year’s resolution. I invite you to join me each day as we practice living in the NOW and "Going with the Flow."

Happy New Year!

Have a great month!

Dennis

“There is a Life Stream that flows to you, and this is a Stream of clarity, a Stream of wellness, a Stream of abundance… and in any moment, you are allowing it or not. What someone else does with the Stream, or not, does not have anything to do with how much of it will be left for you. This Stream is as abundant as your ideas allow it to be.”
