It’s All About the Energy!”

In last month’s blog, I wrote about a gentleman who was trying to wrap his head around the concept of Conscious Living, the content and subtitle of my three books in the Dancing with the Energy series. At one point he said, “It sounds like a lot of work. What’s in it for me? What’s the essence of all this stuff?” After some thought regarding the “essence” part of his question, I concluded that it basically boils down to one word: Freedom—in its many and varied applications. In that blog I discussed Freedom of Choice, Freedom from Fear, and Freedom from Not Being “In Control.” This blog is a continuation of that discussion.

Freedom from “My Stuff”
A major aspect of freedom—especially in this modern, materialistic age—is freedom from “My Stuff.” In short, do you own your possessions or do they “own” you? A large proportion of people—regardless of their economic situation—have difficulty differentiating their wants from their needs. Abundance (our spiritual birthright) is not just about money, and it certainly is not as simple as having money versus living in poverty. It concerns all of our resources, especially the value we choose to place on them.

•   “What you are wanting most is freedom, and many of you are bound to the physical things that you have accumulated—for they have taken your freedom away from you.” ~ Abraham (Collective consciousness of Spirit as channeled by Esther Hicks; A New Beginning, Volume 1, 1987, p. 204)

•   “If your dominant intent is to feel joy while you are doing the work, your triad of intentions—freedom, growth and joy—will come quickly and easily into alignment. See your ‘career’ as one of creating a joyful life experience. You are not a creator of things or a regurgitator of what someone else has created or a gatherer of stuff. You are a creator, and the subject of your creation is your joyful life experience. That is your mission. That is your quest. That is why you are here.” ~ Abraham (Money and the Law of Attraction: Learning to Attract Health, Wealth and Happiness, 2008)

An important aspect of abundance involves how we respond to all of our resources (including financial). But on a strictly material level, our possessions—regardless of whether we see them as needs or as wants—become dysfunctional when we become attached to them. When that happens, our possessions “own us.” It is not so much the stuff itself, but our attachment to our stuff (a choice) that robs us of our freedom.

Freedom from Attachment
Attachment isn’t just about possessions; it is also about events, places, people, fears, habits, behaviors, substances, philosophies, religions—just about anything in the human experience that you can imagine. It is the attachment to the emotional content—positive or negative—associated with these things that causes them to become lodged in the soul memory. This “trapped energy” is only released and/or healed at a later time, sometimes dozens or even hundreds of lifetimes later. Because life lessons and karma are often deeply embedded in past-life experiences, they are often laden with associated trapped emotions.

•   “The purpose of the soul on the Earth plane is to grow. The soul has lived many incarnations, and it is working to free itself from attachment, desire, greed—all of the emotional ties which tie many of you to the earth plane. It is about faith, it is about trust, it is about surrender to a higher power. Yes, it is about letting go of the [Lower] Self. The Higher Self will always lead you to safety and, may I say, to a better life and better conditions. It does not want you to live in a negative way. It does not control either, but suggests the higher way.” ~ Maitreya (Channeled by Margaret McElroy; Newsletter #443, September 15, 2009)

•   “It is each soul’s purpose—very like the sperm trying to find the egg—to strive in this incarnation for growth, freedom from the earth plane, and the continuing round of existence it endures. The soul will lead you to teachers, books, and all sorts of ways of freeing yourself from the earth. Often you do not listen. You do not listen because you fear change—fear looking at yourself—which is a very important part of moving forward. You see, you have a [Lower] Self. It is attached to the earth plane, does not want to see you ascend, and does not want you to grow. The Self will do everything in its power to stop the soul from growing. You—the body and mind—are usually unaware of this.” ~ Maitreya (Newsletter #260, November 16, 2009)

As Maitreya so frequently notes, we are here on the physical earth plane to grow, to change or transform our vibrational, spiritual natures into better versions of ourselves. This is both the fundamental basis as well as the moment-to-moment practice of Conscious Living.

Freedom from “Resistance”
Ultimately, life is about raising your vibration, becoming a better version of yourself, a.k.a, transformation, soul evolution. Any and all efforts that thwart Allowing your life energies to flow freely, unhindered, without resistance (the opposite of allowing) ultimately prevent the Balancing of those energies and their subsequent Alignment with Higher Self.

•   “Freedom from resistance is what Happily Ever After is.” ~ Abraham (”Abraham Now” broadcast, February 5, 2022)

•   “No one experiences freedom until they stop pushing against others. The only thing that binds you is the pushing against that which is unwanted. And so, if a religion could just be excited about what it is, or a person within a religion could just speak with appreciation about what it is, without justifying what it is by pushing against everything else, then each religion, in all of its difference, could be just exactly what you’re reaching for.” ~ Abraham (Boca Raton, FL, December 8, 2001)

Resistance is attachment to one’s “comfort zone.” Regardless of the form it takes, resistance (in all its guises) is the most important factor in “What’s Holding You Back” from making progress on your spiritual path.

So much for “Freedom from (fill in the blank)”. it is certainly good to be free of that laundry list of things (and there are many more!). The fact is that such a list tends strongly to focus on negatives, what you don’t want (or need!). But what you put your attention on expands in your life (basic Law of Attraction 101). How about learning to focus on things that are positive, what you do want (and need!)—not just for a change of pace, but as an intentional act to consciously reinforce into a new habit for lifelong living? (That is Conscious Living in action!) For example, how about focusing on:

Freedom to Live Authentically, to Be Who You Really Are
Brené Brown (1965–; American scholar, author, & public speaker) defines authenticity as “the daily practice of letting go of who we think we’re supposed to be and embracing who we are.” Maitreya calls this “becoming the Master of your life.” I call that practice Conscious Living.

•   “Ordinarily when you feel negative emotion, the majority of the time, it is because your freedom is being challenged. Somebody is telling you [that] you can’t do something or somebody is not believing you can do something, and you’re feeling it. The majority of the negative emotion that all of you feel has to do with freedom.” ~ Abraham (A New Beginning, Volume 2, 1991, p. 229)

•   “Every emotion, from despair all of the way up to ecstasy; from complete Connection to who-you-really-are, all the way to pinching yourself off pretty severely, all of those emotions are about your perception of freedom, or your perception of bondage—every one of them.” ~ Abraham (Collective consciousness of Spirit as channeled by Esther Hicks; Orlando, FL. January 22, 2005)

•   “Only when you are true to yourself, then you can call yourself spiritual!” ~ Maitreya (Newsletter February 11, 2014)

•   “Let yourself be led to the light. Let the light shine through, and the reward will be that peace [the peace that passes all understanding]. Let yourself be led away from the earth plane to ascension—to a higher vibration—and to a union that is beyond anything you have ever known. It can start now. You can experience that peace. ... The opening of this door is not easy. We have sent many teachers to help you. They are everywhere, and if you ask you will be led to them. It means facing your [Lower] Self and letting it go. Then will you make ascension to the higher vibration.” ~ Maitreya (Newsletter #236, May 27, 2009)

I remember quoting Thomas Jefferson (3rd US President) in a high school speech class many years ago: “The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.” Of course, Jefferson was referring to democracy, but it also applies to the freedom to be authentic, who you really are. That vigilance is the consistent monitoring of your emotional state, your “Emotional Indicator” as I call it in the three Dancing with the Energy books. It is a key factor in successful Conscious Living. Vigilance in this context means to pay constant attention to your Emotional Indicator and to make course corrections as needed to return to and maintain a positive mental and emotional state in Alignment with Higher Self. Your Emotional Indicator will always correctly inform you of whether you are leaning/headed toward or away from Alignment with Higher Self. This is the essence of Conscious Living, becoming the Master of your life rather than being mastered by life. That‘s “What‘s In It For Me.”

•   “Letting go gives us freedom, and freedom is the only condition for happiness. If, in our heart, we still cling to anything—anger, anxiety, or possessions—we cannot be free.” ~ Thich Nhat Hanh (1926–2022; Vietnamese Buddhist monk, peace activist, author, poet, & teacher)

•   “The basis of life is Freedom. The objective of life is Joy. The result of life is Growth.” ~ Abraham (Philadelphia, PA, May 12, 2005)

That is Conscious Living. Have a great month!
